Reliability is one of the most important things to consider when deciding which car to get. If you drive a reliable vehicle, it will likely have fewer problems, last longer, run better, and safely get you to your destination.
For compact car reliability, the best model isn’t the Toyota Corolla or the Honda Civic. The most reliable small car is the 2023 Kia Forte, according to J.D. Power. The site recently unveiled the results of the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which listed the three most reliable vehicles for each segment. For the compact car segment, the Forte took the top spot, followed by the Corolla and the Hyundai Elantra.
Why did the Kia Forte earn the compact car top spot in the Vehicle Dependability Study?
With its thorough analysis and decades of experience evaluating cars, J.D. Power is a highly trusted authority in the automotive industry. The company conducts various studies throughout the year, but one of the most watched is the Vehicle Dependability Study.
For the 2023 VDS, J.D. Power received thousands of surveys from vehicle owners over the previous 12 months. In the surveys, owners reported issues in nine vehicle categories covering 184 problem areas. These categories include driving experience, infotainment, climate, driving assistance, exterior, interior, seats, powertrain, and features/controls/displays.
Since the 2023 Kia Forte has the fewest number of issues in these problem areas, J.D. Power named it the most reliable small car — ahead of the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, and all other models in the segment.
Kia is also 1 of the most reliable car brands
Like the Forte, Kia fared well in the Vehicle Dependability Study due to fewer problems compared to most other automakers. Also, the small car wasn’t the only Kia model that earned the top reliability honor. J.D. Power named the 2023 Kia Optima the most reliable midsize car. Also, the 2023 Kia Sorento earned the second spot for midsize SUV reliability, behind only the 2023 Toyota Highlander.
Other highlights of the 2023 Forte
Another strength of the 2023 Forte is affordability. It’s a budget-friendly choice with a starting price of only $19,690 MSRP. Further adding to the affordability is the generous warranty coverage, with the backing of a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The compact car is also very efficient — with an estimated gas mileage of up to 28 city/39 highway mpg. Plus, it comes standard with a lengthy list of features.
On top of all this, as declared by J.D. Power, the 2023 Kia Forte is the most reliable small car — not the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.
